The route: Lake Balkhash (with landing)
The place of start/return: Boraldai Airport Ili region Almaty area, The Republic of Kazakhstan

According to the ancient Kazakh legend, one powerful rich man (Bie) Balkash had a beautiful daughter Ili. Bie declared a competition – a «toy», and he promised his daughter as wife to the winner. But the beauty Ili loved poor shepherd Karatal. Ili helped Karatal to win the competition of grooms. Bie Balkash did not want to give the daughter to the poor man. That’s why Karatal and Ili ran away. The angered father could not catch up with fugitives. And then it turned them into the rivers, and he himself turned to lake of the color of gray-haired blueness, absorbing the disobedient daughter. Here is our people’s legend about lake Balkhash which is unique natural formation. It is huge on the area, but very shallow, and there is salty water in its east half while its west part is fresh enough. That’s why the fish inhabitting the different parts of the lake is various.
